Step 37 of the Journey: Adjustments

Step 37. Making adjustments. I’m constantly reviewing what I’m doing and what I’ve done so that I can see what works, what feels right and how I can improve. If I look at my mornings for the last 36 or 37 days, there is a clear pattern emerging, and that is the pattern of consistently getting those first things done, day after day. As the day goes on, the willpower to get things done diminishes, but it is still so much higher than it used to be. So, the plan is to work with my strengths, and not to leave much space for my weaknesses.

Let’s look at what easily gets done every single day (my routine):
I wake up refreshed (because I go to bed early).
I read (something that motivates or educates me).
I exercise (a progressive routine that started ridiculously).
I walk my son to school, and continue walking for 40 minutes.

That is the hard-core, never miss, key start to my day. It fits with my values of health, family and self-development. Up until now I’ve assumed that the work/business elements will just follow on from that, and sometimes they do. Other times I find it difficult to really get going, and the whole environment of work, business and writing becomes an uncomfortable place.

So, now that I have seen the power of good habits at the start of the day, it makes sense to incorporate into my early day routine the things I truly want to progress. I’ve now started that routine with two small blocks of 30 minutes of focus, and I need to build them. But I also need to prioritise one of them (business). To prioritise that, it makes sense to fit that block early into the day.

It also makes sense to get the writing done early. So far, I’ve written and published every day but it’s been a little random. So that is being added to the early morning routine. From now, mornings are purely the big stuff, the things that matter to me and take me to my true goals.

Day 29 of healthy eating done.

Day 37, job done.
